I basically list the same products but I have mark up the same products in Etsy significantly to counter the additional 13% they charge if the sale is made through an ad. I've been selling on both eBay initially (for over 7 years), and eventually Etsy (during the pandemic). There are a few to pick from that help point out your bottom line for each listing. If you can't do the math, use an online seller calculator.

Folks who offer free shipping without considering that cost in the item price also have no clue. When someone asks why they have to buy a shipping label when Etsy already charged the customer kind of sets the tone for the kind of sellers we're dealing with. This is painfully obvious in some of the Facebook groups. The big problem is folks who decide they are going to sell online with no clue what they are doing. If you sell low priced items, that 45 cents in fixed fees makes the percentage look high but the bottom line is it's still 9.5% (or 6.5% if comparing apples to apples with other sites).

The payment processor takes 3% plus 25 cents. Etsy takes 6.5% of the item and shipping plus 20 cents. Amazon has a list of fees but looks like theirs is around the same. I don't sell on ebay but did a quick google search and looks like they take 15% (I don't know if that includes payment processing). Anyone who says Etsy is the most expensive marketplace to sell on also doesn't understand math. when most have a basement for storage, or a locker storage somewhere, which is cheaper than renting from AMZ.Īnd how is it the CHINESE/ASIANS can send their stuff to AMZ and sell it really really cheap and pay those fees? Labor costs are higher, so these platforms and retailers have to increase their fees.
AMZ will ding your account for being below standard but won't impose fees.īut realistically we have to remember everything is going up in price. I just can't tolerate the penalties ebay imposes on stores (and everybody) if you don't meet their standards. I'm strictly auction/BIN and have a limit of 250 listings, even though my inventory has more items.
